What does Dell think about Social Media ROI?
“Richard Binhammer (from Dell’s Social Media team) gave a private presentation yesterday and when one of the audience members asked about how Dell measures the ROI of their Social Media strategy, Binhammer responded that ROI was nothing more than an accounting term and probably has little to no place when it comes to measuring the success of any Social Media marketing initiative.”

Social Personas – Good Place To Start
Posted on 17. Jan, 2010 by Jordan Kettner in Social Media
Developing an accurate persona should be the first step towards starting a new social media campaign. Once you have developed an accurate customer persona it will help you answer the following questions:
- Who is your target market – Age, gender, location, family size
- What do they like – What are their primary, secondary and tertiary interests?
- When can you get involved in their conversation – Are they looking for information? Are they looking for discounts?
- Where can you find them online – Do they participated in blogs, forums, user groups, or social networks?
- Why would they want to engage with you? – Can you offer them something remarkable that would make them consider you during their next purchase?
If you can’t answer most of these questions then you have no business in the social media space.
Dentyne Social Media Campaign – #emptycupholder
Posted on 12. Jan, 2010 by Jordan Kettner in Social Media
Here is the latest social media campaign from the marketing team over at Dentyne.
Pretty simple actually, Dentyne is wanting to promote the fact that their gum packages fit into the cup holder of your car. If you twitpic a picture of an empty cup holder they’ll send you a free pack of gum. Not a bad deal, they’ll get their gum out there and get some people (like me) blogging about it. Lets not forget about the increased followers on Twitter.
Here is what you have to do:
- Visit http://fillthecupholder.dentyne.com/
- Take a twitpic of an empty car cup holder
- Add hashtag #emptycupholder and @DentyneGum in your twitpic message
- Submit and upload
- Then visit their site, give them your address and they’ll send you some gum…
It will be interesting to see how Dentyne plans to follow up this campaign. They will have an increased Brand awareness and an extremely high follower count on Twitter. Don’t waste it!
Increase Engagement On Facebook Fan Pages

I Setup My Facebook Fan Page, Now What?
This is a question that we are starting to hear more and more. Here are some easy ways that you can increase the engagement on your Facebook fan page.
- Spread The Word – How do you expect your page to become popular if you don’t tell anyone about it? Email, blog, and tweet – let them know!
- Link Love – Add links from your homepage, email campaigns and other online properties.
- Exclusive Deals – Give them a reason to visit the page over and over. Have deals that are unique to Facebook and unavailable anywhere else.
- Fresh Content – Add your twitter feed and unique content – give people a reason to come back.
- Promote Discussion - Ask questions, engage your fans.
There needs to be a reason for people to be your fan, they don’t want another boring online corporate profile page.
Reputation Management – How SEO Can Help
Posted on 21. Dec, 2009 by Jordan Kettner in Internet Marketing, Search Engine Optimization, Social Media
In the last year or so, the phrase ‘reputation management’ has been coming up in more and more conversations with clients who are trying to suppress negative information on the internet.
Here are some strategies that you can use to protect your brand image online.
- Domain Names – If you are a large B2C company especially, you will want to make sure that you own domain names like CompanyNameSucks.com. This will protect the image of your brand, and keep unhappy customers from easily ranking on the SERP with negative information. It is also a good idea to own domain names like CompanyNameNews.com, CompanyNameMedia.com, CompanyNamePress.com and so on. Domain names that have your name and official sounding words like News, Media, Press Release, etc need to be protected.
- Own The SERP – Another common strategy is to create a series of mini-sites to make sure that your company owns the entire search engine results page for a branded search. If someone searches for “Company Name” in Google, you want to make sure that they see your official site, LinkedIn profile, Facebook Fan Page, Twitter account, and mini sites that are owned by you.
- Social Media – Listen to what your customers are saying. Make sure that you are meeting their needs to the best of your abilities. Also, make sure that you are actively promoting your positive company initiatives, charity events, and news. This helps your company image when someone stumbles across your Twitter account, or Facebook Page.
